Licensed insurers in the Cook Islands are:
- International General Insurance Lts (CI) (previously CAIL)
- Physicians Insurance Services Inc
- Southpac Life Insurance Ltd
Supervision of Insurers and Insurance Intermediaries
All insurers and insurance intermediaries doing business in the Cook Islands are subject to the provisions of Insurance Act 2008. However, transitional provisions will operate until early 2010 for those insurers that were conducting business in the Cook Islands as at 1 January 2009.
It is an offence for an unlicensed person or entity to carry on insurance business in the Cook Islands.
Certain exemptions operate for global insurance policies that cover risks located in the Cook Islands. Please refer to the Insurance Act and the Insurance Regulations 2009 for further details of these and all other exemptions.
